FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Brooke Kurucz completed a three-point play with 47 seconds remaining and Fairmont State outscored Urbana 8-4 in the final minute of Thursday's Mountain East Conference matchup to allow the Falcons to close out a 74-70 victory inside Joe Retton Arena.
 
Kurucz's three-point play broke a 66-66 tie with just under a minute to play, then FSU went 5-of-6 from the foul line in the final 26 seconds of play to seal the win – avenging an early-season loss (86-77) to the Blue Knights back on Jan. 11 on the road.
 
With the win, Fairmont State improves to 11-10 overall, including 6-9 in MEC play. Urbana falls to 10-9 overall and 8-7 in the league.
 
Sierra Kotchman led the Falcons with 18 points, three rebounds and five assists in the win. Kelli Jo Harrison recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Ozge Yarga added 11 points and four assists.
 
Fairmont State shot 41.4 percent from the field (24-58) and made eight three-pointers in the victory. The Falcons also went 18-of-20 from the free throw line and passed out 14 assists on 24 made baskets.
 
Urbana, on the other hand, was limited to just 38.3 percent from the field (23-of-60) - with six three-pointers. The Blue Knights also went a perfect 18-of-18 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Falcons by 10 (41-31).
 
Sylvia Hudson led the Blue Knights with 17 points and four rebounds in the losing effort. Megan Beachy and Stefanie Davis also reached double-figures with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
 
The game featured 11 ties and five lead changes, as Urbana held the lead for more than 22 minutes of play.
 
The Falcons will remain at home on Saturday afternoon, when Notre Dame College comes to town for a 2 p.m. MEC matchup at Joe Retton Arena.
