WISE, Va. – Fairmont State limited UVa-Wise to 31 percent from the field and allowed just 50 points in a road victory over the Cavs (61-50) on Thursday evening at the Prior Center.

Steve McDonald another milestone in his storied head coaching career, as the 18th-year head coach of the FSU women's program picked up his 350th career win on Thursday evening. McDonald is now 350-177 as the head women's basketball coach at Fairmont State.
For the season, Fairmont State improved to 12-11 overall and 7-10 in Mountain East Conference play. The Cavaliers fell to 4-18 overall and 3-14 in league play.
Fairmont State used a 7-of-10 performance from the field and broke out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter of play. From that point, the Falcons led by at least five the rest of the game to get the season sweep over the Cavs.
In addition to the strong defensive performance, the Falcons shot 40.7 percent from the field and dominated the paint, holding a 43-36 rebounding edge and 34-16 advantage scoring in the paint. Fairmont State struggled from behind the arc, going just 3-for-14 (21.4%).
Brooke Kurucz led the Falcons on the offensive end of the floor with 17 points and four rebounds. Kelli Joe Harrison also reached double-figures with 14 points and seven boards.
Sierra Kotchman struggled on the offensive end of the floor for the second-straight game, finishing the night with seven points, three rebounds and four steals.
Erin Danik also chipped in six points to go along with a game-high four blocks.
UVa-Wise's Cynita Webb recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Cavs also got nine points from Quick Gomez and eight from Kalee Johnson.
The Falcons will now travel to Athens for a 2 p.m. Saturday matchup with the Mountain Lions of Concord.
