Falcons Rally In Game 2, Earn Split At Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. -- Greg Yaksich hit a two-RBI single in the top of the seventh inning of game two of Fairmont State's doubleheader with Concord on Saturday afternoon to help FSU earn a split at Anderson Field. CU rolled to an 18-2 victory in game one before Fairmont State rallied to a 4-2 win in the second game of the day.

With Fairmont State trailing 1-0 after an early run by the Mountain Lions, Darrin Zombro cleared the left field fence on a solo shot to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning. Concord regained the lead in the bottom half of the fifth, when Adrian Peralta hit an RBI single to right field to score Evan Webb for the go-ahead run.

The score remained the same until the top of the seventh, when Ben Myers double to deep left-center field to bring home Chris Green to knot the score at 2-2. During the next at-bat with Myers on second and Jacob Goodnight on third, Yaksich drilled a single up the middle to give the Falcons their first lead of the day (4-2).

Houston Morris was credited with the win after recording three-straight outs in the bottom of the seventh to improve to 2-1 on the season. Morris faced five batters, three of which he struck out. Caleb Lutjens got the start for the Falcons and went five and two-thirds innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on six hits. The freshman from Hickory, N.C. struck out four batters in his second career start.

Following the come-from-behind victory in game two, FSU moves to 11-14 overall and 5-7 in the league on the season. CU goes to 14-10 overall and 8-4 in league play.

Concord used a 12-run third inning in game one of the doubleheader to take control of the early game. The Mountain Lions recorded 17 hits and plated 18 runs in the game, compared to just two runs on six hits for FSU.

Joe LaRocca plated the first run of the game for the Falcons in game one, hitting an RBI single to bring home Zombro second. Fairmont's second run of the game came off the bat of Goodnight in the top of the fourth, when his fielder's choice allowed Zombro to score for the second time in the game.

Fairmont State will return to action on Saturday, April 7 with the first of a four-game series with Wheeling Jesuit. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
