FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State women's soccer put on a dominating performance in its 2018 season opener, topping visiting Felician University by a 3-0 tally on Friday evening at Duvall-Rosier Field.
Fairmont State got two first half goals from true-freshman
Kylee Altland in the first half of play, before sophomore
Louise Welch wrapped up the scoring in the 59
th minute.
Angelina Kaylor recorded her first career assists on Altland's goal in the 12
th minute of action, which gave Fairmont State a 1-0 lead. Late in the first,
Hailey McAllister assisted on Altland's second goal in the 44
th minute.
For the game, Fairmont State held a commanding 17-1 advantage in total shots.
Isabelle Vaccari, who made her first career start in net for Fairmont State, faced just one shot and earned the victory. Felician goalkeeper Jamie Kazenmayer faced 11 shots on goal and made eight saves in the losing effort.
Offensively, the Falcons got five total shots from
Abigail Johnson, four from Welch and three from Altland.
Abigail Fowler and Kaylor also attempted two shots apiece.
Fairmont State will return to action on Sunday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field when Caldwell University comes to town for a 1 p.m. non-conference matchup.
