Phillips Scores In 59th Minute To Lift Fairmont State Past NDC

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State improved to 3-1 on the season with a 1-0 win over Notre Dame College on Wednesday evening at Duvall-Rosier Field. Rachel Phillips scored on a header in the 59th minute following a corner kick by Louise Welch.
 
With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Mountain East Conference play. NDC falls to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.
 
Phillips' goal was the first of her career as the freshman scored on just her third shot of the season. Welch also recorded her first assist of the season and fourth of her career with the perfectly placed corner kick.
 
Statistically, Notre Dame held a 10-9 edge in total shots, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Fairmont State held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
 
In addition to Welch's assists, the sophomore also recorded a team-high three shots in the victory. Abigail Fowler also chipped in two shots as six different players recorded shots for Fairmont State.
 
Isabelle Vaccari (3-1) earned her second career shutout victory after recording saves on each of the five shots she faced on Wednesday evening.
 
The Falcons will return to action on Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. matchup with West Liberty University. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field.
