Lady Falcons Fall At Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- Glenville State avenged its only Mountain East Conference loss of the season on Wednesday evening by picking up a 99-69 victory over Fairmont State at the Waco Center.
 
Fairmont State, who rolled to a home win over Glenville State, 98-77, at Joe Retton Arena back in November, slipped to 7-10 overall and 4-7 in league play following the setback. GSC remains in a tie for first place in the MEC by improving to 15-2 overall and 10-1 in MEC play.
 
The Pioneers broke open a close game by outscoring the Falcons 18-10 in the second quarter to grab a double-digit halftime lead (40-30). The score was 22-20 in favor of Glenville State after one quarter of play as the Falcons shot 57 percent in the first 10 minutes of play.
 
Early in the second half, Glenville State outscored Fairmont State 18-7 in the first five minutes of the third quarter to take control of the game. The Falcons trailed by double-digit for the remainder of the game, cutting the lead to as few as 11 at the 8:24 mark of the fourth before GSC responded and stretched its lead late.
 
The Falcons struggled with ball security most of the evening, surrendering a season-high 29 turnovers in the setback. Glenville State had just 13 turnovers on the evening.
 
Fairmont State's Rachel Laskody led the Falcons with 21 points on 10-of-12 from the field. Brooke Kurucz also chipped in 15 points and five rebounds, and Sierra Kotchman tallied 10 points and a team-high six assists.
 
Offensive the Falcons shot 45 percent from the field (27-of-60), despite making just 3-of-18 attempts from three (16.7%).
 
Glenville State shot 40 percent from the field and scored 26 points off turnovers in the runaway victory.
 
Emily Stoller paced five double-figure scorers for Glenville State with 21 points in the win. Donasja Scott recorded a double-double for the Pioneers with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Re'Shawna Stone and Zakiyah Winfield also tallied 16 points apiece for GSC.
 
GSC held a 55-35 advantage on the glass, including 27 offensive rebounds.
 
The Falcons will now prepare for Saturday's road matchup at Shepherd University. Tip is set for 2 p.m. at the Butcher Center. It will be the first matchup of the season between the Falcons and Rams.
