FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State outscored Wheeling Jesuit 21-6 in the opening quarter and led wire-to-wire in an 84-56 Mountain East Conference victory over the Cardinals on Wednesday evening at Joe Retton Arena.

With the win, Fairmont State improved to 8-11 overall and 5-8 in MEC play. Wheeling Jesuit falls to 3-16 overall and 1-12 in league play.

Fairmont State used a balanced offensive attack in the victory, getting 27 points and 11 rebounds from
Rachel Laskody, 14 points, three rebounds and three assists from
Sierra Kotchman, and 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals from
Brooke Kurucz.
Kamrin Weimer also chipped in nine points, and
Presley Tuttle and
Josie Daugherty tallied six apiece off the bench.
Molly Rinkevich came off the bench and chipped in six rebounds.

Fairmont State shot 50 percent from the field (29-of-58) and 45.8 percent from behind the arc (11-of-24) in the win. The Falcons also held a 37-33 rebounding advantage.

Defensively, Fairmont State limited WJU to just 30 percent from the field (18-of-60) and 13.3 percent from behind the arc (2-of-15).

Chenelle Moore recorded a double-double for the Cardinals with 19 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. Lauren Lipscomb also chipped in 11.

Fairmont State led by as many as 35 at the 5:46 mark of the fourth quarter.

The Falcons will return to action on Saturday at West Liberty. The DII Showcase Game is set for a 1:30 p.m. tip at the ASRC.
