Falcons Record 567 Yards of Offense in Win Over Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. -- Fairmont State scored a touchdown on its first five possessions and never looked back in a dominating 56-27 victory over Concord on Saturday afternoon at Callaghan Stadium in Athens.
 
With the victory, Fairmont State snaps its four-game losing streak and improves to 2-5 overall and 2-5 in Mountain East Conference play. Concord falls to 0-7 overall, including 0-6 in the league.
 
The Falcons piled up 567 yards of total offense in the victory, including 310 yards on the ground and 257 yards through the air. Fairmont State also possessed the ball for over 34 minutes in the game and went 6-of-12 on third downs in the lopsided win.
 
For the second-consecutive week and third time this season, Fairmont State had two backs go over 100 yards rushing, led by 125 yards on 24 carries from Tyree Randolph and 109 yards on 17 carries from Rakeem Darden. Randolph and Darden each rushed for a pair of touchdowns.
 
Khalik Hamlin also contributed to the Fairmont State rushing attack with 59 yards on just nine carries.
 
Javon Hayes went over 100 yards receiving for the third-consecutive week for the Falcons, hauling in a team-high five catches for 105 yards and a TD. Andre Hall also chipped in seven receptions for 77 yards and two scores in the passing game.
 
Takwan Crews-Naylor completed 16 of 22 pass attempts for 240 yards and three scores on the afternoon.
 
Defensively, the Falcons held Concord off the scoreboard for the first 27 minutes of play, getting a team-high six tackles, two pass break-ups, and a sack in the victory. The Falcons also got five tackles and a 47-yard pick-six from Jordan Schaeffer. Jaylon Doss also chipped in five solo tackles.
 
Brandon Plyler carries the Mountain Lion offense with 10 receptions for 165 yards and two second half scores. Although eight of the receptions and 148 yards came in the second half when the game was out of hand.
 
Two quarterbacks got extended action for the Mountain Lions this afternoon. Matt Shearer completed 17-of-22 pass attempts for 237 yards and three scores. Starting quarterback Kyle Akin completed 10-of-17 passes for 48 yards and a score. Akin also threw two interceptions.
 
Concord was completely shut down on the ground, accounting for -19 yards on 15 carries.
 
Dwain Porterfield racked up 15 total tackles for the Concord defense, including 11 solo stops.
 
Fairmont State will return home next Saturday to host West Liberty on Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field.
