Tuttle, Kotchman Lead Falcons To Blowout Win

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Fairmont State opened up a 30-8 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back in a 94-60 blowout win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday evening at the Rockefeller Center.
 
The Falcons made 12-of-16 shots in the first quarter (75%) and finished the game by shooting nearly 51 percent overall, and 46 percent from three (12-of-26).
 
Fairmont State also had a big evening on the defensive end of the floor, limiting Wesleyan to just 27.9 percent from the floor and forcing 17 Bobcat turnovers. The Falcons scored 24 points off turnovers, including 18 of those points on the fast-break.
 
With the victory, the Falcons stretch their win streak to three games and improve to 4-3 on the season. The Bobcats fall to 3-3 on the year.
 
Presley Tuttle and Sierra Kotchman each recorded 20-point scoring performance on the evening, getting a team- and career-high 25 points from Tuttle, and 22 points and six rebounds from Kotchman.
 
Tuttle finished the evening by making 8-of-12 field goal attempts, including 5-of-7 attempts from behind the arc. Tuttle also chipped in six rebounds and four steals on the evening.
 
The Falcons had a total of five players reach double-figures in the win, getting 13 points apiece from Kamrin Weimer and Brooke Kurucz, and 10 points and nine rebounds from Rachal Laskody.
 
Fairmont State, who has been outrebounded by 14.7 per game this season, was edged on the boards by a narrow 44-43 margin this evening.
 
Wesleyan had two double-figure scorers in the setback, getting a team-high 20 points from Nicole Gilyard, and 14 points and eight rebounds from Cierra Tolbert.
 
Fairmont State will now take a few days off for the Thanksgiving holiday, before returning to action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the University of Charleston. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. at Dan Cava Court inside Joe Retton Arena.
