BOWIE, Md. -- Fairmont State outlasted Bowie State, 75-73, at the A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Md. on Saturday afternoon in non-conference Atlantic Region action.
 
With the win, the Falcons improve to 4-1 on the year, including a 3-0 mark in non-conference action. Bowie State slips to 3-5 on the year.
 
Fairmont State had a big day on the offensive end of the floor, shooting 59.6 percent from the field and a sizzling 64.7 percent from behind the arc (11-of-17).
 
Cole VonHandorf and 
Kenzie Melko-Marshall each scored 20 points in the victory, while 
Dale Bonner recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists. VonHandorf went 6-of-9 from the field and 5-of-7 from three, while Melko-Marshall shot 7-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from behind the arc.
 
The Falcons also got nine points and four rebounds from 
Seth Younkin, and eight points from IsaIah Sanders off the bench.
 
Bowie State was able to stay within striking in the game because of 26 Fairmont State turnovers and 25 offensive rebounds. The Bulldogs scored 23 points-off turnovers and had 22 second-chance points.
 
Bowie State struggled from the field, though, shooting just 38 percent from the floor and a dismal 4-of-19 performance from three-point range.
 
David Belle paced Bowie State with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Cameron Hayes added 10 points off the bench. Shaiquan Jamison was just one-point shy of a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.
 
Bowie State finished the game with a 41-28 advantage on the glass, including a 25-6 edge on the offensive boards.
 
The game featured six ties and four lead changes, and neither team had a double-digit lead in the game. Fairmont State led by as many as nine at the 12:44 mark of the second half.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on Wednesday evening when Charleston visits Dan Cava Court at Joe Retton Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
