Big Second Half Leads Concord Past Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Concord used a big second half to knock off Fairmont State, 91-80, on Saturday evening at Joe Retton Arena.
 
With Fairmont State leading 44-41 at the half, the Mountain Lions opened the second half on a 21-7 scoring run over the first eight minutes of play to grab a double-digit advantage at 62-51. From that point, Concord allowed Fairmont State to cut the margin back to single-digits just once, 74-65, with just 2:41 to play.
 
However, a 9-0 Concord run ended the Falcons' comeback bid and allowed the Mountain Lions to beat Fairmont State at home for just the fifth time in the last 61 games at Joe Retton Arena.

With the win, Concord improves to 16-8 overall and 11-7 in the league. Fairmont State slips to 17-7 overall and 14-4 in league play.
 
Concord shot 44 percent from the field and held a 50-41 rebounding advantage in the victory. The Mountain Lions also scored 20 second-chance points off of 17 offensive rebounds in the win.
 
Fairmont State got a team-high 24 points and four assists from Jason Jolly in the setback. The Falcons also got 14 points from R.J. Hutcherson, 13 points and 13 rebounds from Vonte Montgomery, and 11 points from Andrew Emrick.
 
The Falcons shot just 39 percent from the field and went 11-of-40 from behind the arc (27.5%).
 
Concord got a game-high 31 points from Jair Rodgers in the win. Rodgers went 5-of-10 from behind the arc. Tommy Bolte also chipped in 19 points and three assists, and Malik Johnson added 18 points and five rebounds.
 
Bolte, the league's leading scorer this season, went just 4-of-11 from the field and scored 10 of his points at the free throw line (10-of-10).
 
The Falcons will face another stiff test on Thursday evening at the University of Charleston. The Golden Eagles knocked off No. 2 West Liberty, 88-87, in overtime this afternoon at the ASRC. Thursday's game is set to tip at 7:30 p.m.
