Yellow Jackets Take Two From Falcons Saturday

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Fairmont State hit three home runs and had six extra-base hits in a pair of high scoring games at West Virginia State on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets swept the Mountain East Conference doubleheader after winning 7-6 on a walk-off in game one, before sweeping the day with a 9-3 win in game two.
 
Following the setbacks, Fairmont State is now 12-8 overall and 3-3 in league play. WVSU improves to 7-11 overall and 5-1 in league play.
 
Game 1
 
In the first game of the day, Tyler Skidmore and Brooks Carr each hit two-run home runs in the top of the fourth inning to give the Falcons a 4-0 advantage midway through the game.
 
After four runs by West Virginia State in the fourth inning and two more runs in the fifth inning, the Falcons faced a 6-4 deficit entering the final inning of play.
 
In the top of the seventh with Kevin Ayala at third and Zach Musgrove at second, Skidmore hit a single to deep center field to tie the game at 6-6 after Ayala and Musgrove crossed home plate.
 
Matt Harrison scored the game-winning run for West Virginia State on an RBI single into left field to give State the 7-6 triumph.
 
Skidmore went 2-of-4 with a run scored and four RBI's in the first game of the day.
 
Game 2
 
In game two, West Virginia State scored seven runs in the first three innings to take control of the game early.
 
Fairmont State's limited offense in game two was provided by Ayala, who hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Falcons on the board. However, West Virginia State's Conner Slagill answered with a two-run bomb of his own in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the final score 9-3.
