BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State used a stellar pitching performance from
Michael Stout to earn a split against UVa-Wise on Friday afternoon at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.

Fairmont State edged UVa-Wise, 3-2, in game one, before falling 9-4 following a late surge by the Cavaliers in game two.

With the split, Fairmont State moves to 14-10 on the season, including a 5-5 mark in Mountain East Conference play. UVa-Wise is now 14-13 overall and 8-2 in league play.

Game 1
Â
Stout improved to 4-1 on the season after picking up the win in game one this afternoon. The senior allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out six in the complete game.

UVa-Wise's Greg Duncan also turned in a solid performance on the hill for the Cavs, allowing just one earned run on six hits.

Tyler Skidmore got the scoring started for the Falcons with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Kevin Ayala made it 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning on a fielder's choice that plated
Tyler Hill from third.

UVa-Wise's Tyler Blaum tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning on a single down the left field line that scored two runs.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh when
Alex Banko scored from second following an error by the UVa-Wise third baseman, giving the Falcons a 3-2 walk-off win.

Fairmont State also jumped out to an early lead in game two, starting with an RBI single by Ayala that scored
Chris Green from third base to make the score 1-0 after two innings of play.

Zach Musgrove and
Tyler Hill both hit solo home runs in the bottom of the third inning to push Fairmont's lead to 3-0.

However, UVa-Wise scored four runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh to take control of the game and earn the split. UVa-Wise's Dawson Cagle keyed the comeback for the Cavs by hitting a pair of 3-run home runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Hill added an RBI single for the Falcons in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 9-4 in favor of UVa-Wise.

The Falcons will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Concord in MEC action at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.
