FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Michael Stout threw a three-hit shutout in game one and Fairmont State hit three home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame College on Saturday afternoon to open a four-game series this weekend.

With the sweep, Fairmont State improves to 18-15 overall and 9-9 in the league. NDC falls to 14-20 overall and 8-10 in the league.

Game 1

Stout threw a complete game in the early game, allowing just three hits and striking out eight batters in seven innings of work. In addition to eight strikeouts, Stout forced nine groundouts compared to three fly outs. Stout improves to 6-1 on the year.

Jordan Sanders put the Falcons on the board first in the bottom of the second when
Jordan Sanders hit a solo home run to make the score 1-0.
Chris Green drove in the second run of the game later in the inning on an infield single. During the at-bat, while the third baseman attempted to throw Green out at first, an error occurred that allowed
Tyler Hill to score and unearned run.

In the bottom of the third,
Tyler Skidmore and Hill each hit RBI doubles to make the score 4-0, which would hold and become the final score of the game follow seven innings of play.

Seven different players recorded hits for the Falcons in game one, including four players that recorded extra-base hits in the win. Skidmore and Hill each hit doubles, which
E.J. Trickett added a triple and Sanders homered.

Game 2

In the second game of the day Fairmont State added two more home runs and held off a late surge to pick up the win. The Falcons led the game 6-2 before a three-run fifth made the game a one-run margin with two innings to play.

Notre Dame got the scoring started in the top of the second with a pair of runs. The momentum swung in the bottom of the third though with a five-run inning for the Falcons.

Zach Musgrove put the Falcons on the board with an RBI groundout that allowed
Kevin Ayala to score from third. Skidmore tied the game with an RBI single during the next at-bat, and Sanders hit his second home run of the day, a two-run shot, to give the Falcons the lead for good (momentarily at 4-2).

Green wrapped up the five-run inning with an RBI single to right center that plated Joe LaRocca from second base.

E.J. Trickett made the score 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth by hitting a home run to left field.Trickett finished the day with a triple and a home run.

Notre Dame scored the final three runs of the game in the top of the fifth, but Fairmont State held on for the 6-5 win.

Sam Aloi improved to 3-3 on the year with the victory in game two, allowing just four earned runs on six hits. Aloi struck out three.
Houston Morris recorded his fourth save of the season in the win, recording the final two outs for the Falcons.

Fairmont State and Notre Dame will wrap up their four-game conference series on Sunday at Bridgeport Recreation Complex. First pitch is set for 10:30 a.m.
