FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State softball team wrapped up a 6-2 week by sweeping Notre Dame College on Sunday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field, 2-1, 8-4.
Following the doubleheader sweep, Fairmont State improved to 19-13 overall and 13-5 in the league. NDC falls to 14-20 overall and 4-10 in the league.
Game 1
In the first game of the day, Fairmont State's
Hannah Absalom and Notre Dame's McKenzie Zigmont battled through an 11 inning pitching dual until Fairmont State's
Katlynn Foltz drove in the game-winning run on the sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11
th inning to give the Falcons the 2-1 walk-off win.

Courtney Worcester got the scoring started for the Falcons in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single to right center to score
Haley McDaniel for the first run of the game.
NDC tied the game in the top of the fifth when a fielding error by Fairmont State allowed the tying run to cross home plate.
In the bottom of the 11
th with Cosgrove placed on second, Worcester led off the inning with a single to left field to put the game-winning run on third. During the next at-bat, head coach
John Light called upon Foltz as a designated hitter and she delivered with sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Cosgrove to easily score from third.
Absalom went the distance, allowing just nine hits and one unearned run in the 11-inning victory. The senior struck out four batters and walked none. With the win, Absalom improves to 12-4 on the year and 2-2 on the week.
At the plate,
Kaylee Andersen went 2-for-3 with a double, and Worcester went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Game 2
Fairmont State closed out the sweep with an 8-4 win in game two, scoring the final four runs of the game.
With the score tied 4-4 in the middle of the third inning, Fairmont State took control of the game with some assistance from a trio of Notre Dame errors to take the lead for good. The first run came when Jenny Stubb's groundout was overthrown by the NDC shortstop, allowing McDaniel to reach home.
Later in the inning,
Heidi Hormell also reached on a NDC error that allowed Andersen to cross home plate to give the Falcons a 6-4 lead.
Carly Clarke scored the seventh run of the game for the Falcons on an RBI single to right field that brought home Stubbs in the bottom of the fifth. Andersen would wrap up Fairmont State's scoring in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single to center field to score Worcester.
Darby Petersen came up big for the Falcons in game two to earn her second win of the week. She pitched the final four innings of the game on Sunday afternoon, allowing just one hit and walking one batter. She improved to 3-4 on the year.
Jada Simon, Andersen, Stubbs and Hormell recorded two hits apiece for the Falcons in game two. Hormell, Foltz, and
Carly Clarke drove in runs in the bottom of the second to give the Falcons their initial 4-0 lead in the game. Notre Dame matched the run total in the top of the third to knot the game at 4-4.
