BECKLEY, W.Va. -- The 2019 Fairmont State baseball season came to an end on Friday afternoon when UVa-Wise rallied from a 7-2 deficit to top Fairmont State, 19-14, in a high-scoring battle on day two of the Mountain East Conference tournament at Linda K. Epling Stadium.

The teams combined for 33 runs and 38 hits, and 12 pitchers took the mound for the two teams on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, Fairmont State wraps up the season with a 25-25 overall record, making their second MEC Tournament appearance in the last three seasons.

Tyler Skidmore led the Falcons on Friday afternoon by hitting two home runs, pushing his final season total to 13, which is the most by any Fairmont State hitter in a single-season in the last 17 years (Note: the Fairmont State record book is only complete back to 2002).

In addition to Skidmore's big day, five different players hit doubles for the Falcons, including three from second team All-MEC standout
Zach Musgrove on the afternoon.
Kevin Ayala,
Tyler Hill,
Brooks Carr and
Greg Yaksich also added doubles for the Falcons.

In all, seven different players recorded multiple hits for the Falcons, and seven players drove in at least one run in the setback.

Musgrove went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Hill went 3-for-5 with a run score, and Green went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Both of Skidmore's hits left the park.

Fairmont State grabbed a 7-2 lead after four innings, thanks to a six-run second inning, before UVa-Wise took over with five runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth, seven runs in the seventh, and three runs in the ninth to outscore the Falcons and advance to day three on Saturday.

Seven different players hit doubles for UVa-Wise, as the Cavs picked apart Fairmont State's pitching staff late in the game with 14 hits and 17 runs in the final five innings.
