WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- Fairmont State limited West Liberty to just 11 field goals in the first three quarter and rolled to an 84-67 road victory on Wednesday evening at the ASRC.

Brooke Kurucz surpassed the 1,000 point mark in her collegiate career (including Akron and Fairmont State) after scoring 18 points on 7-of-11 from the field on the evening. Kurucz now has 1,003 point in her four-year career, including 984 points while wearing the maroon and white. With 16 more points, Kurucz will become the 32
nd player in Fairmont State history to score 1,000 while playing for the Falcons.

With the victory, Fairmont State snapped its two-game skid and improved to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in Mountain East Conference play. WLU slipped to 6-9 overall and 2-7 in the league.

Junior Fairmont State standout
Sierra Kotchman finished the evening with a game-high 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Rachal Laskody matched Kurucz's point total with 18 points to go with 10 rebounds and three assists.
Kamrin Weimer also chipped in 12 points to give the Falcons four double-figure scorers.

Fairmont State shot over 50 percent from the field in the opening half and opened up a 47-25 halftime advantage after a strong defensive effort. The Hilltoppers went just 8-of-31 from the field (25.8%) and 3-of-16 from behind the arc (18.8%) in the first 20 minutes of action.

Fairmont State stretched its halftime advantage to as many as 25 with 4:12 remaining in the third quarter before the Hilltoppers cut the final margin to 17.

For the game Fairmont State shot just under 44 percent from the field. West Liberty shot 34 percent from the floor, with half of the teams field goals coming in the fourth quarter.

The Hilltoppers held a narrow 45-41 rebounding edge.

Morgan Brunner paced West Liberty with 20 points in the setback. Taylor Johnson chipped in 18 points for the Hilltoppers, while Audrey Tingle pulled down 17 rebounds and passed out five assists.

Fairmont State will return to action on Saturday afternoon when Wheeling University visits Dan Cava Court inside Joe Retton Arena for a 2 p.m. tip.
