Sanders Scores Career-High 30 In Fairmont State's Win Over Bluefield State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Isaiah Sanders scored a career-high 30 points to lead Fairmont State to a 91-82 non-conference victory over Bluefield State on Monday evening at Dan Cava Court inside Joe Retton Arena.
 
With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 6-0 in non-conference play and 19-5 overall this season. Bluefield State falls to 10-13 after the loss.
 
Fairmont State led by as many as 16 points in the second half and held the lead for over 35 minutes in the victory.
 
The Falcons shot 46 percent from the field, and drained 9-of-29 attempts from behind the arc. Fairmont State finished the game with 18 assists on 31 made baskets, including six assists apiece from Cole VonHandorf and Dale Bonner.
 
On the defensive end, the Falcons forced 17 Bluefield State turnovers and turned them into 20 points off-turnovers. Bluefield State shot just under 46 percent from the field in the setback, but did most of their damage in the paint with 48 points in the paint. The Blues also held a 44-37 advantage on the glass, which includes 16 offensive rebounds.
 
Fairmont State had five total players in double-figures during the win. Sanders completed his career-high performance by going 11-of-14 from the field, 4-of-5 from behind the arc, and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. The sophomore also added three rebounds and three steals. The Falcons also got 19 points from VonHandorf, 16 points from Kenzie Melko-Marshall, and 11 points from Bonner. Przemyslaw Golek also recorded a double-double for the Falcons with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
 
Bluefield State had three players in double-figures, including 22 points from Alex Nunnally, 16 from Marquez Cooper, and 12 points from Saveon Falls. The Blues had 28 bench points in the game, compared to just five for Fairmont State.
 
The Falcons will now have a quick turnaround to prepare to a crucial Mountain East Conference matchup at Wheeling University on Wednesday evening. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
