Falcons Drop Road Game at League-Leading Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- Glenville State shot nearly 50 percent from the field and dominated the glass in a 102-76 runaway victory over Fairmont State on Wednesday evening at the Waco Center. The Pioneers held a 57-31 advantage on the glass.
 
Glenville State was able to take control of the game in the second quarter by scoring 35 points and shooting 14-of-21 from the field (66.7%) during the 10-minute period.
 
Fairmont State falls to 11-10 overall and 8-7 in Mountain East Conference play following the setback. GSC remains in first place in the MEC with a 17-4 overall mark, including a 13-2 record in conference play. The Falcons gave the Pioneers one of their conference losses back on Dec. 15 in Fairmont, as the Falcons rolled to a 101-87 victory at Joe Retton Arena.
 
Taylor Duplaga led the Falcons with a career-high 23 points on Wednesday night, marking her first-ever double-figure scoring performance of her collegiate career. Duplaga went 7-of-13 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line to lead the Falcons. The Falcons also got 14 points and five assists from Sierra Kotchman, 13 points and 11 rebounds from Rachel Laskody, and 12 points from Kamrin Weimer.
 
The Falcons shot under 40 percent from the field in the loss, including a 5-of-14 performance from behind the arc. The Falcons also turned the ball over 18 times against the GSC pressure.
 
Glenville State had three players record 20-points scoring performances, including a game-high 24 points form Ty Armstrong. The Pioneers also got 21 points and four assists from Zakiyah Winfield and 21 points and seven rebounds from Re'Shawna Stone. Lucille Westfall led GSC on the glass with nine rebounds.
 
Glenville turned 21 offensive rebounds in 20 second-chance points in the win.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena. The Falcons will host the Mountain Lions of Concord at 2 p.m. in MEC action.
