WHEELING, W.Va. -- Third-seeded Charleston outscored sixth-seeded Fairmont State 31-13 in the second quarter to take control of the game, and rolled to an 86-53 victory in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain East Conference Basketball Tournament presented by the Health Plan on Thursday afternoon at WesBanco Arena.

With the victory, UC advances to Saturday's semifinal round for a matchup with second-seeded Notre Dame College – who advanced with a 75-61 win over Wheeling in today's first quarterfinal.

Fairmont State wraps up the season with a 15-14 overall record.

During the game changing second quarter, UC outscored Fairmont State 15-3 in the first 4:38 of the period to extend its lead to double digits for good.

For the game, Charleston shot 55.4 percent from the field (36-of-65), including a 7-of-14 performance from three (.500). Charleston also went 7-of-7 from the free throw line and held a 40-31 rebounding advantage. Charleston scored 52 points in the paint.

Fairmont State shot 33 percent from the field, including just 7-of-25 from behind the arc (28.0%) in the setback. The Falcons also turned the ball over 18 times.

Sierra Kotchman led three double-figure scorers for the Falcons with 13 points.
Rachel Laskody also wrapped up her career this afternoon with 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Kamrin Weimer chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

With Kotchman's first 3-pointer this afternoon, the junior set a new school record for made 3-points – passing Kristen Gattuso, who made 258 from 2001-05. Kotchman now has 261 three-point field goals in her career.

Kotchman also moved into seventh place in Fairmont State women's basketball history in scoring during the game, passing Vonda Shaw, who finished her career with 1,624 points from 1984-88. Kotchman will enter her senior year with 1,633 points in 2020-21.

Brooke Kurucz and senior forward
Rachel Laskody.

Kurucz finished her career with 1,107 points, 313 rebounds, 162 assists and 103 steals. Kurucz leaves Fairmont State in 23
rd place in all-time scoring.

Laskody wrapped up her career with 1,078 points, 648 rebounds, 123 assists, 96 steals and 79 blocked shots. Laskody ranks 27
th in career scoring and second in career field goal percentage (.566) in program history.

Anna Hayton paced UC on the offensive end of the floor with 25 points and nine rebounds, shooting 11-of-13 from the floor. Dakota Reeves also chipped in 20 points with her six made three-pointers, while Brooklyn Pannnell finished the game with 10 points and four boards.
