Volleyball Hosts MEC Division Leaders This Week

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State University volleyball team (17-6, 7-2 MEC) looks to continue their winning ways as they earned sweeps over Glenville State and Concord last week in Mountain East Conference play. On Tuesday night, the Falcons will start a four-match homestand when they will contend with Wheeling (17-5, 8-1 MEC) on Tuesday night and round out the week with a Friday and Saturday contest hosting West Virginia State (20-3, 8-1 MEC) and Charleston (14-7,6-3 MEC) respectively.

FSU women's volleyball sits in second place in the MEC North Division with Wheeling a game ahead of the Falcons. WVSU and UC are first and third place respectively in the MEC South Division with three weeks of matches left in the regular season.

Scouting Fairmont State

The Falcons enter the week 7-2 in Mountain East Conference play with three consecutive wins over Frostburg State, Concord, and Glenville State in the past week.

Julia DiPaola leads FSU on the offensive side of court with 252.2 total points and 217 kills in 22 matches on the season. Amelia Moore follows with 168 kills in 22 matches on the year. Lillianna Keber has been the main distributor of the ball with 711 assists and 9.61 assists per set. Keber also holds the mark with 24 service aces.

On the defensive side, Bryce Knapp has collected a team-high 284 digs in 61 sets played and DiPaola tallied 266 digs.

Scouting Wheeling

The Cardinals come into Tuesday's night matchup with Fairmont sporting a record of 17-5 overall and 8-1 in the MEC. Wheeling swept the Falcons early this year Fairmont took down WU in the spring season for Wheeling's first loss in conference regular-season since 2008.

Riley Kindall leads the way for a balanced attack for the Cardinals with 191 total kills and is followed by Mady Winters with 188 kills and Lexi Reinert, 180 kills.

Karly Niesen is the main setter for Wheeling with 892 assists on the year and is first individually in the MEC with second place being Keber with 760 total assists.

Scouting West Virginia State

West Virginia State comes into the contest on Friday night with a match at Concord on Tuesday and comes to Fairmont with a record of 20-3 overall and 8-1 in conference.

Kris Kern's squad enters the week with a two-match win streak and is the MEC North Division frontrunner.

Jenna Dufresne holds a team-high 309 kills with 4.54 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .315 on the year. Gabrielle Bullocks is second on the team with 176 kills and Kiersten Eggleton and Grace Martin round out the Yellow Jackets over the century mark in kills with 123 and 114 respectively.

Scouting Charleston

The Golden Eagles of Charleston round out the busy week for home matches for the Falcons as they enter the week at 14-7 on the season and 6-3 in MEC play.

Sage Bearnson carries the torch on the offensive end for the Golden Eagles with 235 kills in 21 matches and totes a hitting percentage of .211 on the season. McKenzie Denison has 162 kills in the fall campaign and McKenzie Carpenter is third on the team with 123.

On the defensive side of the net, Madison Jackson enters the week tallying 272 digs and Maria Hernandez follows with 228 digs.
