FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State outlasted No. RV/24 (WBCA/D2SIDA) Notre Dame College, 86-83, on Wednesday night at Joe Retton Arena to snap its four-game losing skid.
After Notre Dame (10-3) opened the game with a nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter, Fairmont State (4-8) battled back in the second quarter, and the game remained close the rest of the way.
FSU led by a point after three quarters, and then surged ahead 74-67 midway through the final 10 minutes. Notre Dame managed to tie the game two more times, the second coming after Jada Marone hit two free throws to knot the score at 81-81 with :46 seconds left.
Alyssa DeAngelo answered and hit a couple of free throws for Fairmont State on the team's next possession, and then forced a miss on Notre Dame's possession.
Sierra Kotchman was promptly fouled and made 1-of-2, and a game-tying attempt from Marone wouldn't go down, but Theresa Parr was fouled on the rebound, and made both free throws to make it an 84-83 game with just :12 seconds remaining.
Kotchman was immediately fouled on the inbounds pass and went to the line again, this time making both of her attempts, and again, Notre Dame's game-tying attempt would not fall and Fairmont State held on for the 86-83 win.
Kotchman went 8-of-14 from the field and 5-of-8 from three and finished with 26 points for Fairmont State. DeAngelo contributed 18 points and two steals, and
Jalen Gibbs had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Falcons in the post. The Falcons also got nine points and five assists from
Madeline Huffman, and eight points and four rebounds from

Fairmont State shot just under 46 percent from the field, but hit on 58 percent of its attempts in the second half. Notre Dame shot just 39 percent from the field, including a dismal 25 percent in the fourth quarter.
Marone netted 23 to lead Notre Dame. Parr, Marina Adachi and Amil Ali-Shakir each had 13 points in the setback to NDC.
