FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State softball team edged Walsh University in a pair of non-conference matchups on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.

The Falcons rallied from a 7-2 deficit in game one by scoring two runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to pick up the 8-7 win. In game two, Fairmont State scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth and held off Walsh in the top of the seventh to earn the win.

Game 1

In game one with Walsh leading 7-1 in the fifth inning, the Falcons put a run on the board by scoring an unearned run following an error by the Cavalier shortstop. The Falcons added two more runs in the sixth inning with a solo home run from
Courtney Worcester and a sacrifice fly from
Carlie Schlosser to make the score 7-4 heading into the final inning.

In the bottom of the seventh with a runner on second base,
Andie Baughman hit an RBI double to left field to bring home
Meadow Anderson for the Falcon's fifth run of the game.
Abbey Ammons pulled the Falcons within one run with an RBI double during the next at-bat, and
Emily Riggs followed that up with an RBI single to left field to bring home Ammons for the game-tying run. Two batters later, Schlosser hit an RBI double into left center to give the Falcons a walk-off win.

The Falcons had five extra base-hits and five different players had multiple hits for Fairmont in the come-from-behind win, including
Haley McDaniel, Worcester, Ammons, Riggs and Schlosser. Riggs recorded hits on three of her four at-bats during game one.

Cierra Chastain (1-0) earned the decision for the Falcons after pitching a pair of no-hit innings in the sixth and seventh.

Game 2
Â
In game two,
Molly Schweitzer broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to put the Falcons in front by a 1-0 margin. Fairmont State pushed its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third following a pair of RBI doubles by Worcester and Baughman.

That score remaining the same until Walsh tied the game in the top of the fifth inning after being aided by a pair of unearned runs following a Fairmont State error.

However,
Isabella Yelle gave the Falcons the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth with a double to deep left center to bring home
Brianna McKenzie for the game-winning run.

The Falcons had 12 total hits in the game two victory, including six extra-base hits. Schweitzer and McKenzie each recorded a pair of hits for the Falcons in game two of the doubleheader. In fact, 10 different players recorded hits for the Falcons in the win.

Caitlyn Kassay (1-0) pitched a complete game to earn the pitching decision for the Falcons, allowing just one earned run on seven hits. She struck on nine batters in the victory.
