No. 5 Charleston Tops Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fifth-ranked Charleston opened up a 26-11 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back in a 99-66 victory over Fairmont State on Wednesday night at Joe Retton Arena.
 
With the win, UC remains unbeaten on the season at 9-0 (9-0 MEC). Fairmont State slipped to 3-6 both overall and in the league.
 
Fairmont State suffered from a cold-shooting night in the loss, shooting just 31.4 percent from the field (22-70) and 31.0 percent from behind the arc (9-29). The Falcons also turned the ball over 18 times and were outrebounded 52-38 in the setback.

The Golden Eagles, on the other hand, shot 49 percent from the field (37-76) and connected on 12 three-pointers in the win.
 
Sierra Kotchman led Fairmont State with 14 points on the evening. Alyssa DeAngelo also reached double-figures for the Falcons with 11 off the bench. Jalen Gibbs also chipped in six points and five rebounds, while Gracey Lamm hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with six points and four assists. Erin Danik pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Brooklyn Pannell paced UC with 26 points and six rebounds, while Erykah Russell had a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Dakota Reeves drained six three-pointers on her way to 18 points, and Anastasia Zakharova netted 12. Abby Lee had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.
 
Up next, Fairmont State will travel to West Virginia State for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.
