Baseball Drops Season-Opening Series at Ohio Dominican

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Fairmont State baseball team opened the 2021 season with a four-game series against Ohio Dominican over the weekend in Marietta.
 
The Falcons opened the series by dropping a pair of games on Saturday afternoon by scores of 11-6 and 12-5. FSU wrapped up the series with a 10-3 loss in game one on Sunday, before being edged late in the fourth game of the series by a score of 7-6 in extra innings. Fairmont State led 6-2 after three innings of play in the fourth game of the series before UPJ rallied to force extra innings.

As a team, Fairmont State batted .281 as a team during the series, recording 32 total hits, including four doubles and two triples. The Falcons also scored 20 runs on the weekend.
 
PJ Lanham paced the Falcons at the plate by batting .400 with a double, triple and four RBIs. Chris Green and Justin Brown also hit .400 on the weekend. Jacob Goodnight finished right behind Lanham in the RBI column by batting .286 with a double and three runs batted-in. E.J. Trickett also doubled and drove in three runs for the Falcons.
 
Tyler Haskins (triple) and Vince Sabatino (double) also recorded extra-base hits for the Falcons.
 
Luke Paull's pitching performance in game four of the series highlighted the weekend for the Falcon pitching staff. Paull allowed just three earned runs and four hits in five innings of work as the Falcons opened up an early 6-2 lead against UPJ in the second game on Sunday evening. Paull had a team-high five strikeouts on the weekend.
 
Michael Rotenberry, Logan Smith and Ben Taylor also made starts for the Falcons on the opening weekend of the season.
 
Fairmont State will look to get in the win column on Saturday, March 13 with a doubleheader at Pitt-Johnstown. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
