WHEELING, W.Va. -- After dropping the first two games of the four-game series on Saturday, Fairmont State baseball responded with a doubleheader sweep against Wheeling University on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons took game one of the doubleheader by a 6-2 score, while also picking up a 5-2 win in game two in the late afternoon.

Game 1 - Sunday
Â
After Wheeling took an early 1-0 lead in game one on Sunday, Fairmont State plated five runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead for good.
Alex Banko scored the first run of the game for the Falcons on a wild pitch that allowed him to advance from third to home.

Jacob Goodnight made it 2-0 with an RBI single to center field that brought home
Justin Brown from third base. During the next at-bat,
Tyler Haskins scored on yet another wild pitch by Wheeling.

Zach Musgrove ended the scoring for Fairmont State in the inning when he hammered a two-RBI single through the left side that brought home Goodnight and P.J. Lanham for a pair of RBIs.

With Fairmont State leading 5-1, Wheeling scored its second and final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to make the score a 5-2 advantage for FSU.

Musgrove wrapped up the scoring in game one with another RBI single in the top of the seventh to make the final score 6-2 in the early game.

Musgrove led the Falcons at the plate with a 2-for-4 batting performance with three RBIs in the game.

Ben Taylor (2-2) earned the pitching decision for the Falcons after allowing just four hits and one earned run in five innings of work. Steven Rickets (S,2) recorded his second save of the season after pitching the final two innings and recording five strikeouts.

The Falcons held a 6-4 hit advantage in game one on Sunday.

Game 2 – Sunday

In game two on Sunday, Fairmont State scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead for good.
Â
Lanham started the score for the Falcons in the top of the third when he was walked with the bases loaded. Wheeling took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Chris Iazzetta hit a two-run home run to left field.

In the top of the fifth, Haskins tied the game on an RBI single to right field that brought
Chris Green home from second. During the next at-bat, Lanham belted a three-run home run to left field to give the Falcons a three-run lead at 5-2.

Haskins led the Falcons at the plate by batting 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lanham also drove in four runs, three of which came on his fifth-inning home run.

Connor Cramer (2-0) earned the victory for the Falcons on the hill. He allowed just three hits and two runs in four and one-thirds innings. Cramer struck out four in the win.
Steven Ricketts (S,3) also earned the save in game two on Sunday, facing three batters and recording two strikeouts in the seventh inning.

In game one on Saturday to open the series, Wheeling picked up a 7-4 win. In the game,
Jacob Goodnight batted 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Green batted 2-for-2. Haskins and Musgrove each had doubles in the game.

In game two on Saturday, Wheeling edged Fairmont State by a 3-2 advantage after holding off a late push by the Falcons.
Rafael Ramos batted 2-for-4 with a home run in the setback. Brown also doubled in the game.

Fairmont State will return to action next Saturday at Notre Dame College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in South Euclid.
