PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Fairmont State softball rolled to a pair of lopsided victories over Alderson Broaddus in Mountain East Conference action on Monday afternoon in Philippi.

The Falcons blanked AB by a 9-0 final in game one, before taking game two by a final of 7-2. The doubleheader sweep helped Fairmont State improve to 13-5 overall and 9-5 in MEC play.

AB is now 1-21 on the season, including 0-18 in Mountain East Conference play.

Game 1
Â
In the 9-0 victory in game one, Fairmont State had opened up a 6-0 lead after just three innings of play and added three more runs in the top of the fifth to defeat the Battlers via the 8-run rule.

Carlie Schlosser hit a solo home run in the game, and
Haley McDaniel and
Andie Baughman each recorded doubles as the Falcons finished the game with 10 total hits. Baughman's three-run double came in the top of the fifth inning with the bases loaded to allow Fairmont State to end the game after five innings played.

McDaniel was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
Courtney Worcester also went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs.

In all, six different players recorded a hit in the game, and five recorded RBIs.

Cierra Chastain (6-1) earned the win in game one after pitching three scoreless innings and allowing just two hits. She also struck out three batters.
Alexandria Maddy pitched the final two innings for the Falcons and recorded a trio of strikeouts in the performance.

Game 2
Â
In game two, the Falcons continued their strong play at the plate to pick up the 7-2 victory. The Falcons had 11 hits in game two.

After a scoreless first inning, Fairmont State quickly jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the top of the second inning.
Shelby Reed got the scoring started on a fielder's choice RBI that brought home
Courtney Moyer. Hannah Worked brought home a second run in the inning on an RBI single to left field that scored
Torrie Gall from second.

Later in the inning,
Jessie Weaver singled to center field that was deep enough to allow Workman and Reed to both score.

Leading 4-0, the Falcons took complete control of the game in the top of the third with three more runs. The first run came during Moyer's at-bat early in the inning. Following Moyer's single, Worcester advanced to third and was able to score while the Battlers were attempting to get Moyer out on a throw from right field to first.

Later in the inning, Gall hit an RBI single that brought home Moyer and gave the Falcons a 6-0 advantage.
Brooke Schmitt wrapped up the Fairmont State scoring with an RBI single that brought home Gall.

AB would add two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the final score 7-2 in favor of the Falcons.

Moyer went 3-for-3 for the Falcons in the game, while Gall went 3-for-4. Workman and Weaver also recorded a pair of hits each for the Falcons.

Caitlyn Kassay started game two and earned a no-decision following three innings of work. She allowed no runs and just two hits, while also striking out four.
Ashley Strauss earned the win and improved to 2-0 on the season after pitching the final four innings in relief for the Falcons. Strauss allowed just two runs, two hits and struck out three in the performance.

Fairmont State will return to action on Wednesday afternoon at Notre Dame College. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
