SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Fairmont State and Notre Dame College battled to a draw (1-1) for the second time this season on Friday evening to wrap up the spring 2021 schedule for both teams.

Following the draw, Fairmont State wraps up the 2021 spring season with a 4-0-4 record. Notre Dame wraps up the year with a 4-2-2 overall record. However, NDC has wrapped up the MEC Notre Division title with a 4-0-2 mark against divisional opponents. Fairmont State was 3-0-3 against divisional opponents.

Both teams netted goals in the first 30 minutes of play, starting with a goal by
Ari Christiansen in the 18
th minute on a header that beat the NDC goalkeeper. Fairmont's lead lasted 11 minutes before Alyssa Wright scored with an assist from Ellie Gess in the 29
th minute to knot the score at a goal apiece (1-1).

In the second half, both teams had scoring opportunities, starting with a shot by Fairmont State's
Mackenzie Gillispie in the 67
th minute that was saved by the NDC keeper.

Then, back the other way, Wright quickly got a high-percentage shot in the 68
th minute that was turned away by Fairmont State keeper
Taylor Kennedy.

Following a foul by Fairmont State in the 71
st minute, Notre Dame's Michelle Escobar got a penalty kick from just outside of the box, but Kennedy was able to grab the save and keep the game tied at 1-1.

In the 74
th minute,
Kiera Kuzinski got a penalty kick attempt, as well, but the attempt sailed wide of the net.

Fairmont State got one more high-percentage scoring chance with just over a minute remining in the second half on a breakaway by
Ari Christiansen, but Notre Dame's Jordan Pasalaqua came up with another huge save to send the game into overtime.

In the first overtime, both teams were attacking the offensive zone, with Fairmont State's Gillispie quickly recording a shot on goal in the 92
nd minute that was again turned away by Notre Dame.

Less than a minute later, Notre Dame's Katja Josipovic took a shot attempt that bounced off the crossbar and was turned away by the Fairmont State defense. Kuzinski wrapped up the scoring chances in the first overtime with a shot in the 96
th minute that was saved by Pasalaqua.

In the second overtime, both keepers had to make two more saves apiece before the game ended in a 1-1 draw following 110 minutes of action.

NDC held a slight edge in shots on goal, 10-8, during the game (26-10 in total shots). The home team also had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Kennedy (4-0-4) matched a season high with nine total saves in the draw.

Fairmont State will now wait for the rest of tonight's results from around the MEC. The Falcons have clinched the No. 2 seed in the MEC North Division and will open up conference tournament play on Monday evening. Time, location and opponent will be announced later this evening.
