FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State took two high-scoring games on Saturday afternoon to sweep its senior day doubleheader against visiting Glenville State, 8-5, 8-4, at Duvall-Rosier Field.

With the wins, Fairmont State improves to 17-7 overall and 13-7 in Mountain East Conference play. GSC falls to 6-25 overall and 3-17 in the league.

Prior to Saturday's game, Fairmont State honored its six seniors during a pre-game recognition. The Fairmont State softball seniors include
Cierra Chastain,
Courtney Worcester,
Meadow Anderson,
Andie Baughman,
Kadi Cosgrove and
Jessie Weaver.

Game 1
Â
In game one, Glenville State's Karra Smith gave the Pioneers an early advantage with a three-run home run to center field in the top of the first inning.

Abbey Ammons cleared the fence in left center in the bottom of the second on a solo shot to cut the GSC advantage to two runs at 3-1. The Falcons made it a one-run game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single to center field by
Emily Riggs that scored
Haley McDaniel from second base.
Â
Glenville's Katelyn Richardson pushed the Pioneer lead back to three runs at 5-2 following her two-run home run down the left field line in the top of the fourth.

However, in the bottom of the fourth, Fairmont State rallied with a three-run inning to tie the game at 5-5.
Jessie Weaver started the scoring for the Falcons on a single to right field that brought home
Abbey Ammons and allowed
Carlie Schlosser to advance to third.

During the next at-bat, McDaniel put down a sacrifice bunt that scored Schlosser, but an errant throw by the GSC pitcher also allowed McDaniel to get to second and brought home Weaver for an unearned run.

Fairmont State added the game-deciding runs in the bottom of the fifth to grab the lead for good at 8-5. Schlosser started the scoring for the Falcons with a two-RBI double to left center that scored
Brianna McKenzie and Moyer from second and third. Weaver put Fairmont State's eighth run on the scoreboard with an RBI single to left field later in the inning.

Weaver went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in game one. Schlosser and Riggs also went 2-for-3 in the win.

Cierra Chastain started and pitched four and two-thirds innings and finished the game with five strikeouts before leaving the game in the fifth inning.
Kadi Cosgrove (4-3) earned the win for the Falcons after allowing no hits or runs and recording the final seven outs of the game for the Falcons.

Game 2
Â
Glenville State once again grabbed an early lead in game two, before Fairmont State scored two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to jump ahead with a 7-4 advantage.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the second inning, GSC plated two unearned runs on a pair of Fairmont State errors to jump in front by a 3-1 advantage. Fairmont State got one of the runs back in the bottom of the second when
Courtney Moyer crossed home plate on a wild pitch.

In the third, Schlosser tied the game on a perfectly placed bunt that allowed her to reach first and brought home
Hannah Workman from third. Weaver gave the Falcons the lead for good on a sacrifice fly to center field that brough home Ammons from third.

In the bottom of the fourth with Fairmont State clinging to a one-run lead (4-3),
Molly Schweitzer hammered a double into left center that brought home Riggs and McDaniel and put Cosgrove on third base.

Two batters later, Baughman hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Cosgrove and make the score 7-3 in favor of the Falcons.

Kaylee Drake added one more run for Glenville State in the top of the sixth on an RBI single, before Fairmont State's Baughman hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 8-4.

McDaniel led the Falcons at the plate in game two by going 3-of-4 with two runs scored. McDaniel had two doubles in the game. Cosgrove and Schlosser also added two hits apiece in the win.

Fairmont State held a 5-0 advantage in extra-base hits in game two.

Caitlyn Kassay (4-2) earned the complete-game victory in game two for the Falcons, allowing just six hits and a pair of earned runs. She also struck out two.

Fairmont State will remain at home to host Concord on Sunday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field. First pitch is set for 12 noon.
