SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Fairmont State softball dropped a pair of close non-conference matchups against Slippery Rock University on Wednesday afternoon at the SRU Softball Complex.

The Rock picked up a 3-0 win in game one, before winning on a walk-off, 2-1, in game two.

Following the doubleheader, Fairmont State is now 21-13 overall. SRU improved to 12-24 on the season.

Game 1
Â
In game one, SRU scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to provide the only scoring in the game. Regan Hozak doubled to left center to score the first run of the game, before Erin Gardner added an RBI single to center field to make the score 2-0 Rock. SRU added an unearned run later in the inning to wrap up the scoring.

Fairmont State recorded five hits in game one, getting 2-for-3 hitting performances from
Hannah Workman and
Courtney Moyer.
Haley McDaniel also had a hit and recorded a sacrifice hit during the game.

Shelby Reed (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound for the Falcons, surrendering both runs during her 10 total batters faced.
Cierra Chastain and Reed both recorded three strikeouts in the game for the Falcons.

Game 2
Â
In game two, Slippery Rock took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Erin Gardner got stuck in a rundown from first to second that allowed Julianna Hutchinson to steal home.

The score remained the same until the top of the seventh when
Torrie Gall doubled to left center to bring home Isabelle Yelle for the game-tying run. SRU responded though, as Leah Vith's singled to center field to score Hutchinson from third and end the game with a 2-1 win for The Rock.

The Falcons recorded four hits in the game two setback, including doubles from Workman and Gall.

Ashley Strauss (2-2) suffered the pitching loss for the Falcons after taking the mound in the sixth and seventh for the Falcons.
Caitlyn Kassay,
Alexandria Maddy and Strauss all took the mound for the Falcons this afternoon in game two. Kassay recorded four strikeouts, while Strauss added two.

Fairmont State will return to action on Friday afternoon at West Virginia State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
