BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State battled to a split with Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon during senior day at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex. The Falcons opened the afternoon with a 7-2 win in game one, before dropped a 7-3 final in game two that allowed Frostburg to take three of the four games in the series.

As a result of the split, Fairmont State finished the year with a 14-26 overall record, including a 12-20 mark in MEC play. Frostburg State improved to 14-25 overall and 12-19 in league play following its game two triumph.

Prior to Saturday's season finale, the Fairmont State baseball program honored seven seniors who played their final game in the maroon and white for the Falcons, including
Alex Banko,
Chris Green,
Hunter Haddix,
Alex Pane,
Luke Paull,
Michael Rotenberry and
E.J. Trickett.

Greg Bamberger also honored head baseball coach
Phil Caruso, who announced his retirement from coaching following the 2021 season. Caruso was the head coach for six years at Fairmont State, but spent over 40 years as a baseball coach in the collegiate ranks (including a stint at Frostburg State).

Game 1

In game one, Fairmont State got on the board early and often, starting in the first inning when
Justin Brown came around to score following an errand throw by the Frostburg State pitcher attempting to get the runner out at first.

In the bottom of the second,
Vince Sabatino stole home, and Musgrove hit a two-RBI double to right center to give the Falcons control in the game with an early 4-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth after Frostburg State scored a run in the top of the inning,
PJ Lanham hit a two-run blast to left field to add to Fairmont State's lead at 6-1. Lanham brough home another run in the top of the sixth to make the Fairmont State lead 7-1 on a sacrifice fly that plated Banko from third.

Frostburg wrapped up the scoring with one run in the top of the seventh to make the final score 7-2.

Fairmont State had 10 hits in the game one victory, including three from Brown and two apiece from
Jacob Goodnight and Musgrove. Brown, Musgrove and Banko all hit doubles for the Falcons, while Lanham homered and drove-in a game-high three RBIs in the win.

Senior
Luke Paull (2-3) earned the win on the mound for the Falcons after allowing just one hits in the first four innings of the game. He also struck out three batters.

Game 2

In game two, Fairmont State was limited to just three hits as Frostburg State plated the final five runs of the game to earn the 7-3 victory.

Two of Frostburg's final five runs in the game were solo home runs by Mitchell Fyffe and Jack Lawrence. In all, the Bobcats finished the game with eight total hits, including five extra-base hits.

Before Frostburg took control late in the game, Fairmont State held a 3-2 advantage after scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. The first two runs of the inning came during Banko's at-bat that was aided by an error by the Frostburg pitcher. Brown capped the scoring for the Falcons with an RBI single later in the inning.

Brown had two of Fairmont's hits in the game, while
Tyler Haskins recorded the third Fairmont State hit.

Michael Rotenberry (4-5) suffered the loss for the Falcons on the hill, allowing five runs on six hits during the first five innings of play. He struck out two batters.
