FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State volleyball wrapped up a 4-0 start to the season with a pair of non-conference wins over D'Youville (25-13, 25-15, 25-14) and California (PA) (25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21) on day two of the Falcon Volleyball Classic at Joe Retton Arena.
Match 1 – Fairmont State vs. D'Youville
During the first match of the day against D'Youville, the Falcons got a team-high 11 kills and three block assists from
Amelia Moore.
Julia DiPaola finished one kill short of a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs in the match.
Lily Keber stuffed the stat sheet from her setter position, finishing the afternoon with 33 assists, seven kills and five digs.
Bryce Knapp tallied 11 digs in the match to lead Fairmont State defensively.
Fairmont State hit .416 in the win over D'Youville, committing just 10 attack errors in the three-set match. The Falcons also finished the match with eight blocks and seven aces.
Match 2 – Fairmont State vs. California (PA)
In the nightcap against Cal (PA), Fairmont State once again was led by DiPaola and Moore. DiPaola filled the stat sheet against the Vulcans with 14 kills, 21 digs, two aces and two block assists. Moore finished the evening with 12 kills and three blocks.
Knapp notched 20 digs from her libero position, while Keber guided the Fairmont State offense with 42 assists and 11 digs.
Madison Chapman and
Kelsey Moeller also reached double-digit digs during the four-set victory with 14 apiece.
Emily Cordle had four blocks against the Vulcans.
Fairmont State will return to action next weekend at the Hall of Fame City Volleyball Challenge hosted by Malone University. The Falcons will open up play on Friday at 12:15 p.m. against Seton Hill.
