FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Women's Basketball fell 84-73 to Notre Dame College on Monday night in Mountain East Conference action inside Joe Retton Arena.
Alyssa DeAngelo scored a layup to cap off a 6-0 run for the Fighting Falcons at the 2:47 mark of the first quarter inside Joe Retton Arena. Fairmont State closed the first quarter with a free throw make by
Bre Wilson to lead by three points.
In the second quarter, DeAngelo answered the NDC run by a three-pointer of her own to retake the three-point lead with 7:16 remaining in the first half.
Jertaya Hall pushed the margin to five points in favor of the Falcons after a fastbreak layup with 5:16 to play in the second quarter. Fairmont State held the five-point advantage as the Fighting Falcons headed to the halftime break with the 45-40 advantage.
The start of the second half proved to go in favor of Notre Dame as they quickly knotted the score at 48 apiece after a made basket from Lilee Carson. The two sides traded baskets throughout the remainder of the third quarter before NDC closed on a 7-0 run to take the 60-58 lead with 10 minutes left in regulation.
DeAngelo added two more points to her game totals to tie the contest at 60, but free throw makes by NDC's Carson gave the two-point advantage back to Notre Dame. NDC regained the lead as the Falcons scored nine straight points to take a 74-64 margin with 3:40 left. Notre Dame did not allow Fairmont State within eight points of their lead as NDC earned the 84-73 victory over the Falcons on Monday night.
DeAngelo paced Fairmont State with 24 points on the night on 9-16 shooting and 4-4 from the charity stripe..
Sierra Kotchman added 14 points to her season totals as
Katy Darnell and
Jalen Gibbs both registered 10 points in the game. Darnell secured a double-double as well with 12 rebounds to go along with her 10 points.
Notre Dame was led by Alana Ellis who had a career-high 31 points on the night. Marina Adachi and Tamia Ridley each collected 16 points and Carson rounded the scoring in double-figures for NDC with 10.
Fairmont State shot 28-72 (38.9%) from the field and Notre Dame went 30-61 (49.2%) from the floor on Monday night. NDC outrebounded the Falcons 38-33 in the contest with Ridley grabbing 14 boards.
