Volleyball makes it 8 straight wins

Volleyball improves to 22-2 on the year

Fairmont, W. Va. – The Fairmont State Falcons (21-2 overall, 7-1 in MEC) hosted the Pioneers from Glenville State (14-10 overall, 3-5 in MEC) to Joe Retton Arena for a contest on Friday night, where they won in three straight sets (25-13, 25-19, 25-20).  

Stellar serving by the Falcons helped them to a victory. Kelsie Dangerfield and Karli Edwards each had 4 serving aces each. Bryce Knapp led the defense with 11 digs and 2 service aces. Offensively, Lauren Albrecht had 11 assists and Dangerfield tallied 10 on the evening. Keara Lewis led with 7 kills, while Amelia Moore, Joey Borelle, Madison Chapman totaled for 5 kills. 
 

After a back and forth start to the set, Fairmont State was able to capitalize on some momentum after two service aces by Edwards and Knapp to make the score 12-8. The Falcons forced a Glenville State timeout after an assisted block by Nyla Birch and Amelia Moore at 18-11. FSU went on a blocking mission with four blocks during the first set. Fairmont State was able to remain in control of the set, as they won 25-13 with a service ace by Dangerfield. 
 

Glenville State scored the first 3 points to make it 3-0, but Josie Skinn was able to come back with a service ace to make it 3-3. Fairmont State was able to find their groove after multiple service aces and kills by Chapman pull ahead 16-10. The Pioneers started to push forward against the Falcons' defense to make the score 20-16, still Fairmont State leading. The Falcons were able to handle the pressure, winning the set 25-19, after a couple kills from Lewis. 
 

Fairmont State was able to gain the lead at 6-7, where they would remain in front of the Pioneers for the remainder of the set. Borelle recorded multiple kills and Lewis added another to strengthen the Falcons' lead at 13-9. The Pioneers attempted to fight back after multiple kills from their offense, but ultimately the Falcons' defense held strong at 19-17. Moore would kill and a point in favor of Fairmont State to make the score 21-17. Coming out of a Glenville State timeout, the Pioneers made another attempt at a comeback after a FSU service error and a service ace to make the score 21-19. The Falcons would look to move past this to make the score 23-20. Dangerfield would end the set on another ace to grab the match win, 25-20.  

The Falcons are on the road at Wheeling University for a big match up on Tuesday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m.
