Volleyball Sweeps Frostburg State at Home

Volleyball Improves to 18-2 on the year

Fairmont, W. Va. – Fairmont State welcomed the Bobcats of Frostburg State to Joe Retton Arena where they would improve their record to 18-2 after a three-set match victory (25-19, 25-20, 25-19). The Volleyball team hosted their Youth Volleyball night to encourage younger players to come to Joe Retton Arena to watch the Falcons compete in live action. 

Emma Ludwig, the MEC Defensive Player of the Week, capped the night off with 3 total blocks. Bryce Knapp led the team in total digs with 18. 

Keara Lewis finished the game with 14 kills. Lauren Albrecht aided her team for 17 assists, while Kelsie Dangerfield completed 15 assists to her teammates. Amelia Moore and Karli Edwards each had 2 serving aces on the evening. 

After a back and forth start to the set, Madison Chapman stepped up with two kills to make it 8-6, in favor of the Falcons. A timeout was called for the Bobcats at 14-11, which Fairmont State would then increase their lead by 6 points at 18-12. A kill by Ludwig put the Falcons on top 21-14. Fairmont State came away with the win 25-19. 

Set 2

The Falcons came out just as they left the 1st set, leading the beginning of the set 3-0. Fairmont State led by as many as 5 points at one time in the set. Frostburg State came back to tie the score at 19-19, where a solid volley would take place in which the Falcons would win the point. Fairmont State was able to handle the rest of the 2nd set. Amelia Moore took the initiative of a serving ace to win the set 25-20.  

Set 3

The Bobcats managed to pull ahead quickly during the 3rd set 4-0. Fairmont State worked to fight back to win the match, starting with a kill from Nyla Birch at 3-6, still in favor of Frostburg State. This would start a run for the Falcons where they would eventually bring the score to 10-7. An ace by Edwards would push the Fairmont State lead to 13-8. Moore and Dangerfield managed a block to get to 24-18. The Falcons would win the set 25-19 to gain a victory in the match.  

The Falcons are back at Joe Retton Arena on Friday, October 7th where they will face the Davis & Elkins Senators at 7:00 p.m.
