Fairmont State Baseball Clinches Series Win Over Salem in 11-6 Victory on Monday Afternoon

NUTTER FORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Baseball rolled past Salem University on Monday afternoon, 11-6, as the Fighting Falcons had a season-high 14 hits in the contest.

Fairmont State is now 5-2 on the season and Salem falls to 1-5 on its campaign.

The Fighting Falcons scored 2 or more runs in four consecutive innings to down the Tigers on Frank Loria Memorial Field as Tyler Haskins led the way with four hits as Noah Canterbury and Ryan Goff each collected three hits on the afternoon. PJ Lanham and Vince Sabatino added two hits apiece in the contest as well.

Haskins doubled to the left-center gap in the top of second that scored Lanham and Zach Musgrove and gave Fairmont State the 2-1 lead. Sabatino singled through the right side a couple of batters later that brought home, Haskins.

In the top of the third, Canterbury led the inning off with a single up the middle as Lanham homered to left-center field for three Runs Batted In and made the scoreboard read 6-1 in favor of the Falcons.

Justin Brown continued his on-base streak to seven games as he drew a walk in the top of the fourth inning. Canterbury singled once more driving in Jacob Goodnight and moving Brown to third base. Musgrove plated Brown on his at-bat with a sacrifice fly to center field as the Falcons led 8-1.

Haskins led off the fifth inning with a bunt single and scored on a rbi single by Sabatino. Goodnight earned a rbi on a sacrifice fly that brought the score to 10-1. Canterbury singled for the third straight inning as Brown scored again. The 11 runs would be enough to lift the Falcons to their fifth win on the season.

The Tigers added two runs each in the fourth and sixth innings. Ben Taylor closed the deal on the win for Fairmont State as he allowed one run in the ninth inning.

Wil Mullins settled down nicely after only allowing one run in the first inning as the Senior Right-Handed Pitcher went four full innings with one strikeout and one earned run allowed. Mullins collected a no-decision in his second start of the season.

Taylor Tennant pitched two innings in relief to collect his first win of the season as the junior from Shepherdstown, W.Va. had two strikeouts and allowed two earned runs on three hits. Bryan Camacho came in relief of Tennant in the seventh inning to strike out the side against Salem. Steven Ricketts recorded a clean inning as well with two strikeouts in the eighth.

Lanham led the offensive charge for Fairmont State with the three-run home run to go along with a rbi single. Canterbury, Haskins, and Sabatino added two RBIs apiece in the win.
