Millersville Takes 9-3 Decision over Fairmont State Baseball on Saturday Afternoon

GLENVILLE. W.Va. -- Fairmont State Baseball was back at Sue Morris Sports Complex in Glenville Saturday morning to take on Millersville University in MEC/PSAC Round Robin Tournament. The Marauders prevailed 9-3 over the Fighting Falcons.

Millersville got on the board in the bottom of the first with Bren Taylor coming around to score on a wild pitch by Brett Whiteman after Taylor reached on a one-out single.

Fairmont State loaded the bases in the third inning with three consecutive walks by Marauder Jeff Taylor, but the Falcons were unable to score in the inning after a double play ground out by Tyler Haskins and a deep fly ball out by Zachary Musgrove.

Millersville added two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend its lead to 3-0.

In the top of the fourth, Fairmont State answered with two runs of their own after another bases-loaded inning with no outs. Noah Canterbury scored on a pass ball by the Marauders catcher and PJ Lanham touched home plate on an RBI single by Vince Sabatino. Millersville was able to get out of the inning after a double-play ball by Jacob Goodnight to end the Falcon threat.

Millersville's Justin Taylor hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth as the Marauders tacked on two runs to regain the three-run advantage. The Marauders added two more runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to take the 8-2 advantage. Millersville registered one more run in the contest in the bottom of the eighth after a wild pitch that scored Luke Trainer.

In the top of the ninth, Goodnight drew a lead-off walk and scored on a two-out single by Canterbury, but Fairmont State fell 9-3 to the Marauders on Saturday afternoon.

For Fairmont State, Whiteman took the loss on the day tossing four innings and allowed five runs (two earned runs), six hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Taylor Tennant came in relief of Whiteman and went three innings striking out six Marauders in his appearance. Bryan Camacho went one inning on the day with two strikeouts and allowed one run in the eighth inning.

For Millersville, Nate Young earned the decision on the mound as he went four full innings with seven strikeouts and allowed one hit and one walk in 15 batters faced.

Canterbury notched a two-hit game on the day with one walk and one RBI as well. Sabatino added one RBI to his season totals as well as the Falcons drew 11 walks on the afternoon.

Fairmont State Baseball (5-4, 0-0 MEC) is back in Glenville for the final game of the weekend with the Kutztown University Golden Bears. Kutztown threw a combined no-hitter against Alderson Broaddus tonight with 21 combine strikeouts. First pitch from Glenville State's SMSC is 2:30 p.m.
