FROSTBURG, Md. -- Fairmont State Women's Basketball finished its regular-season portion of its season 15-12 and 13-9 in Mountain East Conference play after a commanding 103-70 victory over Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon.
Sierra Kotchman scored her 2,500th career point in the win too as Kotchman now has 2,523 career points entering next week's MEC Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Fighting Falcons jumped out to a 10-0 lead after a little over four minutes in the first quarter as the Falcons did not allow the Bobcats to get within eight points of their lead the rest of the way. Fairmont State grabbed the 103-70 behind
Sierra Kotchman's 26 point-performance.
Madeline Huffman followed with 17 points on 4-7 from the field and
Alyssa DeAngelo registered 16 points on Saturday afternoon.
Jertaya Hall and
Katy Darnell had 13 and 10 points respectively to round out the Falcons in double figures.
As a team, Fairmont State shot 46.5% (33-71) from the field with 13 three-pointers and went 24-29 from the free-throw line. The Falcons held the decisive advantage in fast-break points with 21 to Frostburg State's eight.
Fairmont State now heads to Wheeling next week for the Mountain East Conference Basketball Tournament with a two-game win streak and the No. 6 overall seed in the bracket. The Fighting Falcons will niw play No. 3 West Liberty on Thursday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. from WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.
