FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Men's Basketball bounced back with a commanding 101-68 victory over Carlow University on Sunday afternoon.
Myles Monroe was honored before the tip-off as Monroe will graduate in the spring with a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
The Fighting Falcons finished their regular season with an overall record of 22-6 and 16-6 in Mountain East Conference play.
George Mangas had a season-high 22 points on 10-12 from the field with a season-high two three-pointers on the afternoon.
Kyle Whippen followed with a career-best 21 points on a perfect 10-10 with seven rebounds and three assists.
Cole VonHandorf (17 points),
Briggs Parris (14 points), and
Isaiah Sanders (13 points) rounded the Falcons in double-figures in the contest. As a team, Fairmont State shot 48.8% (42-86) from the field with 10 three-pointers and went 7-11 from the free-throw line. The Falcons held the advantages in most of the statistical categories with a season-high 42 made field goals on the day and a season-high 26 assists against Carlow.
Carlow's Marcus Millien had 23 points to lead the way for the Celtics as Hunter DeStefano and Malcolm Randall collected 18 and 16 points respectively. The Celtics also went 5-5 from the charity stripe on the afternoon.
Fairmont State is scheduled to play Notre Dame College on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. in the MEC Men's Basketball Quarterfinals at WesBanco Arena. The Fighting Falcons received the four seed in the tournament with NDC being the fifth seed in this year's tournament.Â
