BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Baseball traveled to the Bridgeport Recreation Complex where the Fighting Falcons faced the Clarion Golden Eagles on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons fell 9-7 in the contest as Clarion outscored Fairmont State 8-1 in the final six innings of play.

The Fighting Falcons put up five runs in the bottom of the second inning as Dwayne Thomas led the inning off with a single to center field. Tyler Haskins cleared the bases in his at-bat as Thomas, Zachary Musgrove, and PJ Lanham all scored on Haskins' double down the right-field line. Jacob Goodnight sent a ball over the left-field fence for his third home run in the last five games to give the Falcons the five-run advantage.

Clarion's Kasey Shughart homered in the top of the third to cut the deficit to four runs. Fairmont State added a run in the bottom of the third with Musgrove hitting a sacrifice fly to score Noah Canterbury. The Falcons led 6-1 after three complete innings.

Taylor Tennant got the start and went a solid three innings on the mound as the right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and one earned run while striking out one on the afternoon. Tennant earned the no-decision in his sixth appearance of the season.

The Golden Eagles cut the lead in half to 6-3 after one run scored apiece in the fourth and fifth innings. Clarion tied the score at six apiece in the sixth inning after a two-out single by Golden Eagle Matt Privette.

Fairmont State regained the lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning after Lanham drove Isaac Miller home from second base on a designed hit-and-run with a full count.

Clarion took their first lead of the ball game in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly to center field by Daren Byers to make the score 8-7. The Golden Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the top of ninth after Shughart doubled to center field.
