Baseball Drops MEC Tournament Opener

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Fairmont State baseball dropped a tough one this evening in the Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament against Concord by a final of 12-2 in eight innings.

The Fighting Falcons will now have to work their way through the elimination bracket as the Maroon and White will face the University of Charleston tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. from Linda K. Epling Stadium. The Golden Eagles enter Friday afternoon 1-0 in the tournament after handing Notre Dame College a 10-0 win in today's first game.

Tyler Haskins led off the game with a walk and stole second with Zachary Musgrove driving him in with an RBI double to center field. Concord's Andrew Neff limited the damage to the one run as the Mountain Lions took the lead in the bottom of the first with three runs.

Concord was able to tack on one more run in the second and two more in the third as the Mountain Lions won 12-2 in eight innings.

Connor Cramer took the loss on the mound for the Falcons as he went five and one-third innings and allowed nine runs (six earned) on 10 hits. Cramer struck out eight batters on the evening and walked two.

Neff threw 126 total pitches for his ninth complete game of the season for the Mountain Lions as he improved to 9-4 on the season.

Musgrove went 3-4 from the plate for Fairmont State and had two RBIs in the contest. Jacob Goodnight, PJ Lanham, and Haskins each added hits in their at-bats.

The Fairmont State baseball team will look to continue its MEC Tournament as the Falcons face Charleston at 3:30 p.m. from Epling Stadium.
