Fairmont State Men’s Basketball Takes Down Frostburg State on the Road, 101-77

George Mangas, Isaiah Sanders, Fonz Hale and Briggs Parris all reached double figures.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Fairmont State men's basketball team (14-4, 9-3 Mountain East Conference) won its sixth-straight game on Saturday (Jan. 21) after a 101-77 win over Frostburg State (5-13, 1-11 MEC) at Bobcat Arena in Frostburg, Md.
 
George Mangas reached the 20-point range for the second time in as many games and went a perfect 8-of-8 from the field. Mangas chipped in a pair of triples and led the Falcons with three steals. Isaiah Sanders netted 19 points and added two steals and a block. Fonz Hale added 17 points and dished out five assists. Mangas, Sanders and Hale did not miss a free throw and went a combined 14-for-14 at the charity stripe. Briggs Parris reached double figures and scored 12 points on a 5-for-9 shooting game. David Jolinder hustled for nine rebounds to lead Fairmont State. Zyon Dobbs facilitated six assists and stuffed a pair of blocks to lead the Falcons.
 
The Falcons outscored Frostburg State 46-32 with points in the paint. Fairmont State held the Bobcats to shoot 25.53% from the field in the first half. The Falcons defended the perimeter and held Frostburg State to 25% from shots beyond the arc. Fairmont State shot 10-of-28 from three-point range and 53.7% from the field in the contest.
 
The Falcons trailed by two points with 12:43 left in the first half when Mangas connected on a three that gave Fairmont State a 10-9 lead. A free throw from Jolinder and two free throws by Hale put the Falcons in front by four. A six-point Fairmont State scoring spree that included buckets from Mangas, Sanders and Hale pushed the lead to eight points. A Sanders three-pointer lifted the Falcons to a nine-point lead with 8:59 left in the first half. The Bobcats crept within five points two separate times in the first half. Parris hit consecutive shots from beyond the arc that gave the Fighting Falcons their first double-digit lead of the game. Layups by Hale and Seth Younkin put the Falcons up 18 points and forced a Frostburg State timeout with 2:03 to go. Fairmont State finished the half scoring the final four points and led by 17 after 20 minutes of play.
 
A Mangas jumper and a Sanders three-pointer gave Fairmont State a 21-point lead in the early moments of the second half. Frostburg State would not trail by fewer than 15 points the entire second half and the Falcons continued to control the pace. The Falcons took their biggest lead of the game after Jolinder kicked out an offensive rebound to Tommy Williams, who connected on a three-pointer to put Fairmont State ahead by 25 points. Hale and Mangas both recorded 11 points in the second half and Sanders added 10. Jolinder grabbed eight of his nine boards in the final half of play. Fairmont State won convincingly, 101-77.
 
The Fairmont State men's basketball team will host nationally ranked West Virginia State on Wednesday (Jan. 25) at 7:30 p.m. from Joe Retton Arena.
