Fairmont State Wins Third-Straight Match With Sweep Over MEC North Foe Frostburg State

The Falcons cruised to a three-set victory inside Joe Retton Arena on Tuesday night.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State (10-10, 3-2 Mountain East Conference) volleyball team continued to roll and won its third-straight match after a sweep of the Frostburg State Bobcats (9-10, 1-4 MEC) inside Joe Retton Arena on Tuesday (Oct. 10) night.
 
Joey Borelle led the offensive attack for the Bobcats with 13 kills averaged a .343 hitting percentage. The Norton, Ohio native added 13 digs on the other side of the court. Ellie Zuro swung for eight kills, while Emma Ludwig tallied six. Jaianna Bouarouy racked up 24 assists and Kelsie Dangerfield earned 10 of her own to go along with 13 digs. Josie Skinn guided the defense with 23 digs on the night, adding to her conference-leading dig total. Natalie Zemba had four blocks and two service aces. Nobbe and Ludwig each had a trio blocks.
 
Inside Set One
Fairmont State started the match strong with the Falcons racing to a 7-0 lead, which included two Ludwig kills, a kill by Zuro and a service ace by Bouarouy. A kill by Borelle and Nobbe helped increase the Falcons' lead on the Bobcats, 9-3. A service ace by Zemba helped the Falcons push the lead to 16-7 midway through the set. Back-to-back kills by Zuro made the score 21-9 Fairmont State. The Falcons continued their success on both ends of the court throughout the set and claimed a 25-12 victory in set one.
 
Inside Set Two
Frostburg State snagged the first point of the second set, but the Falcons combatted the Bobcats' momentum with a 5-0 scoring run. After a kill by Zemba to make the score 9-2 in favor of Fairmont State, the Frostburg State coaching staff was forced to call a timeout. Ludwig's two kills aided in a 16-8 advantage for the Falcons. Zemba chipped in a kill and a solo block for Fairmont State to pull away a double-digit lead, 20-10. A kill from Cayden Anschutz added to the Falcons' lead in the second set, 23-15. The Falcons won set point on a service ace from Kelsea Vandine and won set two, 25-18.
 
Inside Set Three
The Falcons notched their first lead of the set 3-2 after a pair of kills by Borelle and one kill from Zuro. A great rally from both teams was won by the Falcons which included hustle plays by Jay Miller and Skinn that ended in a Borelle kill to make the score 7-4 Falcons. The third set continued to be a tight score line with the Bobcats gaining some offensive momentum. Fairmont State was able to pull away 19-15 after two kills by Alexa Martin and a kill from Nobbe. Borelle and Ludwig each notched kills to give the Falcons match point at 24-17. Fairmont State clinched the final point of the match off a service error from the Bobcats to sway the victory 25-19.

Fairmont State will continue its homestand on Friday (Oct. 13) night when West Virginia State visits Joe Retton Arena. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
