Borelle and Nobbe Tally Double-Digit Kill Totals in Fairmont State's Sweep Over Davis & Elkins

The Falcons have won five of their last six matches.

ELKINS, W.Va. -- Joey Borelle and Josie Nobbe both collected double-digit kill totals as the Fairmont State (12-11, 5-3 Mountain East Conference) volleyball team swept Davis & Elkins (1-19, 0-8 MEC) on Friday (Oct. 20) night at the McDonnell Center in Elkins, W.Va.

Borelle finished with a match-high 13 kills while Nobbe added 10. Ellie Zuro put down eight kills for the Falcons. Jay Miller, Kelsie Dangerfield and Jaianna Bouarouy all had one service ace each. Borelle led the Falcons with three blocks while Emma Ludwig and Vicky Manda both had two blocks each. Bouarouy passed 17 assists and Dangerfield distributed 10. Josie Skinn snagged 16 digs for FSU.

The Falcons brought the energy early in the match and won six of the first eight points. Zuro started the match with three kills in the first eight rallies of the match. D&E managed to trim the Falcons' lead to one point at 6-5. Nobbe and Zuro combined for a trio of kills to help the Falcons' lead grow to 10-5. Fairmont State's lead grew to six when Borelle earned a kill on an assist from Skinn. Borelle swung for three-consecutive kills and extended her team's lead to 18-10. Borelle, Nobbe and Zuro each had a kill on the team's 3-0 run that gave Fairmont State a 25-15 win in set one.

With the score tied at 3-3 in set two, FSU ripped off four-consecutive points that featured a kill by Manda, a Dangerfield service ace and a pair of kills by Nobbe. Fairmont State seized control of the second set with a 10-2 run and led 17-7 late in the second set. The Falcons took set two, 25-13.

Nobbe powered a kill that evened set three, 3-3. Zuro and Natalie Zemba teammed up for a block that gave the Falcons a 4-3 lead. A kill by Zuro and a D&E attack error increased the Falcons' lead to 6-3. Borelle swung for three-straight kills that pushed the Fairmont State lead to 11-5. Chloe McDaniel and Manda combined for block assists and increased Fairmont State's lead to 14-7. D&E cut the Falcons' lead to three points at 21-18. After Borelle collected her 13th kill of the night, Manda and Borelle blocked a D&E attack to put the Falcons ahead, 23-18. The Senators made a pair of attack errors on the final two rallies and the Falcons earned the sweep after a set three win, 25-18.

The Fairmont State volleyball team will conclude the weekend with a match in Buckhannon, W.Va. versus West Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow (Oct. 21) at 6 p.m.
