SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio --
Ellie Zuro swung for double-digit kills for the third-consecutive match, but the Fairmont State (15-13, 7-5 Mountain East Conference) volleyball team fell at Notre Dame (8-13, 6-6) on Tuesday (Oct. 31) night inside Murphy Gymnasium at South Euclid, Ohio.
Zuro tallied a hitting percentage of .333 and recorded 12 kills on 27 attempts.
Joey Borelle totaled six kills in the match and added a block.
Kelsie Dangerfield compiled a pair of service aces while Borelle and
Josie Skinn each had one.
Jaianna Bouarouy led the team with 17 assists and Skinn finished with a match-high 11 digs.
Fairmont State held an 11-9 lead in the first set when NDC scored three-straight points to take a 12-11 advantage. A pair of NDC attack errors and a Dangerfield service ace put the Falcons back ahead 14-12. FSU extended the lead to 17-14 after another NDC attack error. The home team rallied for four-straight points and led 18-17 before a block solo by
Chloe McDaniel tied the set at 18-18. A kill by Zuro made the score 20-20 and an NDC attack error put Fairmont State ahead 21-20. NDC went on a crucial 4-0 run and held set point at 24-21. After a service error, the NDC Falcons captured set one, 25-22.
Dangerfield fired her second service ace of the night to put the Falcons in the lead, 13-12. NDC ripped off three-straight points to go ahead 15-13 and later extended the lead to five points at 21-16. Fairmont State trimmed the NDC lead to two points following an NDC service error, a kill by Zuro and an attack error by NDC. Notre Dame pulled away in the final points and took set two, 25-21.
In set three, Fairmont State trailed 9-8 when NDC seized control of a seven-point lead to go ahead 15-8. A pair of kills by Zuro and a block solo by
Vicky Manda cut the margin to three points at 19-16. Fairmont State once again pulled within three points following a kill by
Josie Nobbe and an NDC attack error. NDC completed the sweep with a 25-19 set three win.
Fairmont State volleyball returns home on Friday (Nov. 3) when the Falcons welcome West Liberty to Joe Retton Arena at 7 p.m.
