FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Fairmont State (17-14, 8-6 Mountain East Conference) volleyball team completed the regular season with a 3-1 road victory at Frostburg State (15-15, 5-9) on Friday (Nov. 10) night at Bobcat Arena in Frostburg, Md.
Joey Borelle (15),
Josie Nobbe (11) and
Ellie Zuro (11) combined for 37 of the Falcons' 50 kills in the match.
Jaianna Bouarouy passed 22 assists and
Kelsie Dangerfield handed out 18.
Josie Skinn recorded a match-high 22 digs and added a trio of service aces.
Emma Ludwig tallied six block assists while
Natalie Zemba added five block assists and a block solo.
With the Falcons leading 14-10 in the first set, Fairmont State rattled off three-straight points after kills from Borelle and Bouarouy and a Frostburg State attack error. The Falcons' advantage increase to 22-14 after nobbe registered a service ace.
Alexa Martin powered home the final kill of the first set with the Falcons winning, 25-18. In the second set, Fairmont State jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the Bobcats committed a service error and a pair of attack errors. A combo block by
Chloe McDaniel and Ludwig put the Falcons ahead 9-6 in the second frame. Two-straight kills by Borelle increased the Falcons' lead to five points. Fairmont State pushed the lead to 16-8 after a kill by Zuro, a combo block by Nobbe and Ludwig, a Frostburg State attack error and a Borelle service ace. The Falcons dominated the rest of the set and cruised to a 25-12 win in set two. In set three, the Bobcats led 20-13 when the Falcons rallied and closed the gap to 24-23. Block assists by Ludwig and Zuro put Fairmont State within one point of the Bobcats. Frostburg State managed to score the final point of the third set and forced a fourth set after a 25-23 win. The Bobcats seized an 11-6 lead at the start of set four after a 5-0 scoring run. Fairmont State crept back into the set following a 4-0 run that featured three Frostburg State attack errors. The Falcons led by three points after a 5-0 run that concluded with kills by Nobbe and Zuro. Frostburg State rallied once more and evened the score at 23-23. Zuro pushed the Falcons across the finish line with a pair of kills and gave the Falcons a 25-23 win in the final set.
The Falcons earned the No. 3 seed in the MEC North and will play the No. 2 seed in the MEC South, Charleston, on Thursday (Nov. 16) at noon from the Walker convocation Center in Institute, W.Va.
