FAIRMONT, W.Va – The Fairmont State women's basketball team (9-1 overall, 5-0 Mountain East Conference) rolled past the Arrows of Ursuline (8-2 overall, 3-1 G-MAC) 73-56 on Saturday (Dec. 16).
A strong defensive start for the Falcons in the first quarter forced 9 Ursuline turnovers resulting in 12 points for Fairmont State.
Alyssa DeAngelo's 5 first-quarter points would help the Falcons take a 20-14 lead going into the second quarter.
Katy Darnell would add 6 points of her own in the second quarter and her team would force 6 more turnovers, going into halftime 38-26.
The Arrows would get the first basket of the third quarter, but the Falcons would go on a 14-3 run from there eventually taking a 20-point lead going into the fourth quarter 62-42 over Ursuline. A three-pointer from DeAngelo would put the Falcons up 70-48 in the fourth and Fairmont State would keep the lead for their ninth win of the season.
DeAngelo would lead the Falcons in scoring with 18, followed by Darnell with 15, with
Leslie Huffman and
Madeline Huffman adding 10 each. The Falcons scored 23 points off turnovers during the game including four steals from
Madeline Huffman.
Fairmont State returns to action on Monday, Dec. 18 as they travel to Robert Morris (4-6 overall, 1-1 Horizon League) for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
