Jertaya Hall Scores a Career-High 27 Points in Fairmont State’s 92-75 Senior Day Win over Frostburg State

The women’s basketball team recorded its first 22-win season since the 2014-15 season.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Senior Jertaya Hall etched a career-high 27 points while senior Gracey Lamm shot a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and added four assists in the Fairmont State women's basketball (22-8, 16-6 Mountain East Conference) Senior Day win over Frostburg State (8-20, 6-16 MEC) on Saturday (Feb. 25) inside Joe Retton Arena. With the win, the Falcons clinched the number four seed in the MEC Tournament and will play West Liberty in Wheeling on Thursday (March 2) at 8:30 p.m.
 
Hall made four three-pointers and shot 8-for-13 from the field in her final game at Joe Retton Arena. She dished out two assists and chipped in a pair of rebounds. Alyssa DeAngelo finished with 17 points and made a trio of three-point baskets. DeAngelo stuffed four blocks and passed two assists. Katy Darnell scored 12 points and led the Falcons with five assists. Aaliyah Brunny scored 11 points and pulled down six boards. Lamm's nine points were a season-high for the graduate student from Clarksburg, W.Va.
 
With the score knotted at six, Brunny drained a three-pointer on a pass from Darnell that put the Falcons ahead. Leslie Huffman made a putback layup to extend the Falcons' lead to five at the first media timeout. DeAngelo scored her eighth point of the quarter with a triple that put the Falcons ahead 16-10. Darnell added a three-pointer and Fairmont State led 19-12 with 2:25 left in the first. Madeline Huffman knocked down a pair of free throws that gave the Falcons a 25-16 cushion after one quarter. The Falcons kept the offensive momentum going in the second quarter and opened with a 10-2 run to start the frame. The Falcons led by as many as 19 points in the quarter and controlled the pace of play. Fairmont State led 45-28 at the end of the half.
 
The Bobcats trimmed the Falcons' lead to 14 points within the first two minutes of the second half. Hall scored a fastbreak layup and Jalen Gibbs made a layup to put the Falcons up 18. DeAngelo made back-to-back layups and the Falcons led by 22 points with 6:46 left in the third quarter. The Fairmont State lead increased to 23 points when Lamm rimmed home a three-pointer. The Falcons held a commanding 70-49 lead after three quarters. The Bobcats could not cut the deficit to fewer than 15 points in the last quarter and the Falcons wrapped up the regular season with a 92-75 home win. With the win, the Falcons earned the most wins in a season (22) in eight years when the 2014-15 team won 22 games.
 
The Falcons will play a crucial postseason game in the quarterfinal round of the MEC Tournament on Thursday (March 2) at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va. Tipoff is slated for 8:30 p.m.
