CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Fairmont State (3-19, 2-6 in Mountain East Conference play) baseball team fell in a doubleheader to Charleston (19-5, 5-1) on Sunday (March 26) at Welch Athletic Complex in Charleston, W.Va.

Game One – Charleston 19, Fairmont State 5
The Golden Eagles' offense raced out to a 6-0 lead after sending 10 batters to the plate in the first inning. UC added four more in the third and seven in the fourth and seized a commanding lead. Fairmont State plated three in the bottom of the fourth after RBIs from
Alex Perez,
Jarrod Jones and
Quintin Reep. The Golden Eagles scored two more in the top of the sixth inning. The Fighting Falcons mustered a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on a pinch hit two-RBI base hit by
Dylan Gongola.

Seven different Falcons earned hits in the first game. Perez and Reep both hit doubles and had the lone extra-base hits for Fairmont State.
Noah Canterbury pitched one scoreless inning in relief and struck out one hitter.

Game Two – Charleston 12, Fairmont State 3
UC homered with one out in the top of the first inning. The Falcons evened the game at one after Canterbury doubled down the left field line to score Tennant. Fairmont State pulled in front after
Ryan Goff stole third base and later scored on a UC throwing error. The Golden Eagles regained the lead after scoring six unanswered. Reep hit his second double of the day down the left field line to score Goff to put Fairmont State within four. Charleston broke it open in the seventh inning with five runs and went on to win game two, 12-3.

Canterbury and
Brett Haskins both swung for multi-hit games in game two. Tennant reached base twice on two walks and scored a run. Goff racked up a double and crossed the plate two times.

The Fairmont State baseball team will complete its slate versus MEC South divisional opponents next weekend and will start with a doubleheader at Davis & Elkins on Saturday (April 1) starting at 1 p.m. from Elkins.
