NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Fairmont State softball team (10-10) defeated Fitchburg State 12-0 in five innings and fell to Madonna on Wednesday (March 8) at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.

Game One – Fairmont State 12, Fitchburg State 0 (5 inn.)
Fairmont State wasted no time scoring runs versus Fitchburg.
Peyton Wetherholt drove home
Bella Hess with an RBI single to left field.
Courtney Moyer walked with the bases loaded for Fairmont State's second run. Fairmont State's big inning continued with a two-RBI single by
Jordan Novak that scored Wetherholt and
Alexa Andrews. Moyer scored on the same play on an error and the Falcons led by five after one inning.

Fairmont State added two in the second inning with a Moyer triple to deep right field that scored Wetherholt and Riggs. Fitchburg State loaded the bases in the third inning.
Shelby Reed came on in relief and induced a double play to keep the opposition off the board. Fairmont State added four runs in the fourth from a wild pitch, an Andrews two-RBI double and an RBI single by Elizabeth Waskiewicz and led 11-0 after three.
Hannah Workman scored
Judeah Morris on a hit up the middle to give the Falcons a 12-0 lead. Fairmont State won in five innings in game one.

Olivia Hylton started the game and delivered 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out three. Reed did not allow a hit in 2.2 innings of work and struck out five batters. Workman and Riggs both finished with multi-hit games.

Game Two – Madonna 9, Fairmont State 6
The Crusaders jumped out to a 5-0 lead after scoring five in three innings.
Myaih Cloud ripped a line drive single to first base and scored Wetherholt to get the Falcons on the scoreboard. Madonna scratched across three runs in the top of the fifth and padded its lead to 8-1.

Moyer scored
Abbie Keilholz on a base hit in the bottom of the fifth.
Brianna McKenzie scored Moyer on a hit up the middle for the Falcons' third run. Riggs earned two RBIs on a double and scored Hess and McKenzie to cut the deficit to 8-5. Cloud drove in her second RBI of the game with two outs and completed a five-run inning for Fairmont State.

The Crusaders added one more run in the sixth inning to go up 9-6. The Falcons went down in order in the sixth and were held scoreless in the seventh, and Madonna won by three runs.

Hess and Riggs both recorded multiple hits versus the Crusaders. Reed pitched 2.0 innings and did not allow an earned run and struck out two.
